How to Build a Flagstone Patio – Materials and Cost of Flagstone

When you first start building your first flagstone patio, you will notice that it is not as easy as it sounds. Mixing the concrete, pounding down the sand, and fitting the flagstone in just right can be a challenge. So here are a few tips on what materials you will need and how you can reduce the cost of those materials.

When building a flagstone patio, the first thing that you are going to want to do is get some type of shovel or hoe. This will allow you to dig up the ground with ease. If you are someone like myself that has back problems, it may be beneficial to get a shovel or a hoe that has a long handle. It will be easier to dig and it will have less strain on the back.

The next tool that you are going to need is a level. Very few people understand that your flagstone should be be completely flat when it is completed. It should have a slight slope that when it rains, the water will runoff. Without a level, you will not be able to justify how much of an angle will be appropriate. In the case of a small flagstone patio, just a very slight decrease in height can make a huge difference in how long your flagstone will last.

The last thing that you are going to want to do is get all of the tools from a neighbor or a friend. This will cut down the cost of your materials so you have more to spend on the look and feel of your flagstone.

Here you will find out how to do the entire Flagstone Patio Installation process.
